I love giving and receiving homemade gifts! There are many ideas you can use to give food gifts. One idea is making your own mustard. It is so easy and you can make up a basket with a loaf of fresh rye bread, some cheese, a few bottles of beer and your own mustard. Makes a wonderful gift.
Several years ago a friend of mine gave me a gift of her homemade mustard. In the package was a jar of mustard, a tiny whisk and the recipe! Today I share it with you.
Sweet Hot Mustard
½ cup white vinegar
1 beef bullion cube
1 cup brown sugar
¼ cup dry mustard
1 Tbsp flour
¼ tsp salt
Dissolve ½ cup water and ½ cup vinegar and bullion in a pan over medium heat. Beat 2 eggs and add them to the warm mixture. Combine brown sugar, dry mustard, flour and salt and whisk into the vinegar mixture. Keep whisking until thick.
Pour into small jars. Refrigerate when cool. Lasts two months in the refrigerator.
